Clearing a parent's or partner's home is one of the harder jobs a family does, and it usually arrives at the worst possible time. Deceased estate items are one of the donation sources The Goodwill Shop is set up to receive, and knowing what can go where removes at least one decision.
What from an estate can the shop take?
New and near-new items. Unused gifts, unworn clothing, boxed homewares and anything kept for good and never used are usually the bulk of it.
What cannot go to the shop?
Well-used furniture and heavily used household goods are not what a new and near-new shop is for. Those need a different route.
Will you collect from the house?
No. House of Sadaqa does not do pickups of furniture or used goods. Items are dropped off.
There is too much to deal with at once. Does it have to be one trip?
No. Several smaller drop-offs over weeks are completely normal, and often easier on everyone. There is no deadline.
How do we decide what to keep?
There is no right answer and no need to rush it. Many families set aside anything they are unsure about and revisit it months later. Donating is not a test of how much you cared.
Where does it end up?
Sold through the shop to fund House of Sadaqa programs supporting local families. Things that mattered to someone go on being useful.
