Talking to children about people doing it tough only goes so far. Doing something together lands differently. House of Sadaqa volunteers are 18 and over, or younger when accompanied by a parent or guardian, which makes family volunteering possible.

What age can my child start?

There is no separate minimum age for accompanied volunteers, but the work is practical and physical, so judge it by what your child can genuinely take part in.

Do I have to stay with them?

Yes. Accompanied means you are there for the shift, working alongside them.

Do we need a Working With Children Check?

No. A WWCC is not required to volunteer with House of Sadaqa.

What can a younger child usefully do?

Sorting, counting, packing and labelling are approachable and visibly connected to an outcome, which is what makes it stick for a child.

Is it confronting for kids?

Warehouse and sorting work is a step removed from crisis situations. It is practical work in a busy space rather than exposure to distress.

Should I arrange it in advance?

Yes. Say who is coming and their ages so suitable work is ready when you arrive.

An afternoon doing something concrete together does more than a conversation about it. Arrange a shift: volunteer with House of Sadaqa.
