In practice that means anything from an unwanted birthday gift or a regret purchase, to something you never used that still has the tags on, through to deceased estate items, excess commercial shop stock, or the stock left over when a home business closes.
What does near-new actually mean?
Unworn or barely used, clean, complete, and in a condition you would be happy to receive as a gift yourself. Tags still attached is the clearest case, but plenty of near-new items simply were never used.
Do you take used clothing and household goods?
The Goodwill Shop is a new and near-new shop. Worn or heavily used household goods are not what it is set up for.
What are the most common donations?
Unwanted gifts, regret purchases, unused items with tags on, deceased estate items, excess commercial shop stock, and the remaining stock when a home business closes.
Can businesses donate excess stock?
Yes. Excess commercial shop stock is one of the sources the shop is set up to take, and it is often the most useful kind of donation because it arrives new and in quantity.
Do you collect donations from my home?
No. House of Sadaqa does not do pickups of furniture or used goods. Donations to the shop are dropped off.
Why the new and near-new standard?
Two reasons. It protects the dignity of the person receiving or buying the item, and it means the shop can actually resell it to fund House of Sadaqa programs rather than pay to dispose of it.
