Fundraising as a team is one of the most effective ways to take part in Sleep in Your Car, House of Sadaqa’s one-night fundraiser for local families in crisis. Whether it’s your workplace, your mosque, or a group of friends, teaming up means more people sleeping in their cars together on the night, and more donors reached between you. Register your team or join one on the Sleep in Your Car campaign page.
Why fundraise as a team
A team combines everyone’s networks into one push. Instead of one person asking their own friends and family to sponsor them, a team of five or ten people each reaches their own circle, and the combined total adds up faster than any one person could raise alone. It also makes the night itself easier and safer, since you are not sleeping in a car park by yourself. In 2025, Sleep in Your Car had around 40 individual fundraisers taking part across roughly 7 teams.
How to start or join a team
- Go to the campaign page. Visit the Sleep in Your Car campaign page and look for the option to create or join a team when you register.
- Name your team. Use something recognisable, your workplace name, your mosque, or your group’s name, so people know who they are sponsoring.
- Invite your people. Share the team link or campaign page with colleagues, congregation members, or friends and ask them to register under your team.
- Set a team goal. Add up an individual goal per person to land on a combined target you’re all working toward together.
- Sleep in your cars on the night. Everyone taking part sleeps in their own car for one night on Friday 16 October, ideally parked near each other for company and safety.
One honest note: we have not independently verified the exact steps of the team creation flow on the donation platform, since this can vary depending on how the page is accessed. If you don’t see an obvious option to create or join a team when you get to the campaign page, contact House of Sadaqa directly and they can set one up for you or point you to a team already in progress.
Ideas for workplaces
Turn it into a team-building night. Get a handful of colleagues to register together, park near each other in a safe, well-lit location, and treat it as an out-of-office team activity with a genuine cause behind it. Some employers will match staff fundraising, so it’s worth asking your workplace if they offer donation matching before the night.
Ideas for mosques and community groups
A mosque or community group team can rally congregation members after Jumu’ah or a community event, with the imam or committee encouraging sign-ups. Community teams tend to reach donors that an individual fundraiser might not, since the ask comes from a trusted local voice.
Ideas for friend groups and families
Make a night of it. A group of friends or a family can park their cars together, bring blankets and snacks, and turn a one-night hardship simulation into a shared experience, while still raising real money for families who don’t get to choose whether they sleep in a car.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a minimum number of people to register a team?
We have not independently verified a set minimum. In practice, teams can be as small as two or three people. Check the campaign page or contact House of Sadaqa to confirm.
Do all team members need to sleep in their own car?
Team members who want to be counted as participants sleep in their own car for the night. If someone wants to support the team without sleeping in a car themselves, they can sponsor the team instead.
Can a workplace or organisation sponsor a team instead of taking part themselves?
Yes. An organisation can back a team financially through the campaign page without any of its staff needing to sleep in a car, or it can do both.
Is there a prize or recognition for the top fundraising team?
We have not independently verified whether there is a formal prize for 2026. Regardless, every dollar raised goes to the same goal of supporting local families in hardship.
Where does the money our team raises go?
Funds raised through Sleep in Your Car go directly to House of Sadaqa’s support for local families in crisis, covering essentials such as food, furniture, counselling and transport.
