Volunteer in Sydney: Ways to Give Your Time With House of Sadaqa

You can volunteer with House of Sadaqa in the Revesby warehouse, on monthly Clothe the Homeless runs in the city, in our op-shops, or at community events across Sydney. Most roles need no experience, and if you have unpaid NSW fines, supervised volunteering with us may also count toward clearing them.

What volunteers actually do

• Warehouse sorting and packing. Sorting donated goods and packing essentials for families. This is the backbone of the operation and where most people start.
• Clothe the Homeless. Monthly outreach at Martin Place in the CBD, handing out clothing, sleeping bags and essentials to people sleeping rough.
• Family Support deliveries. Helping load and deliver whitegoods and furniture to families restarting a home. Useful if you can lift, or drive.
• The Goodwill Shop. Serving customers and processing stock at our Bankstown and Revesby op-shops.
• Events and fundraising. Helping run community events and campaigns through the year.
• Admin support. Data entry, calls and coordination, often possible in short blocks.

How much time do you need to give?

As much or as little as suits you. Some volunteers come weekly, others turn up for a single distribution run or a one-off event. There is no minimum commitment, and it is genuinely fine to start with one shift and see how you find it.

Do you need experience?

For most roles, no. Warehouse and distribution work needs willingness rather than qualifications, and someone will show you what to do on the day. Most roles suit people aged 18 and over, and some youth opportunities run through our Ansar Youth Program.

Volunteering for groups and workplaces

Warehouse sorting works well for groups, so workplace teams, university societies, school groups and community organisations can all be accommodated. Get in touch with rough numbers and a preferred date and we will work out the details.

Clearing a fine while you volunteer

House of Sadaqa is an approved Work and Development Order sponsor. If you are experiencing hardship and have unpaid fines with Revenue NSW, supervised volunteering with us can count toward clearing that debt at set rates. What you get out of it

Being honest about this: warehouse work is physical and the days can be long. What people tend to say afterwards is that the work is unusually tangible. You pack a box and you know a specific family is opening it this week. That is rarer than it sounds.
